Capital City Pride Announces 30+ Days of Pride for Iowa’s Largest Annual LGBTQ+ Event

nnnn

Des Moines – Capital City Pride (CCP) will kick off its 43rd Annual PrideFest in June of 2021. As Iowa’s largest LGBTQ+ event, PrideFest brings together the Des Moines community, LGBTQ+ people, and allies to show unity and celebrate equality with a weekend full of activities for everyone.

nn

The Board of Directors has decided to move the 3-day PrideFest Weekend Celebration to a “30 Days of Pride” format. The organization cannot predict what will happen over the next 90 days so we are making decisions based on what we know now. What we know now is that we need to plan events that are socially distant with mask mandates and we will continue to follow the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as local and state public health officials. Capital City Pride is trying to still bring our community together while doing our part in ensuring public safety and social responsibility during these challenging COVID times.

nn

“Our hope is that we won’t need to have social distancing and mask mandate guidelines by June but given the current environment, we rather plan for it and create a little bit of something for everyone no matter what their comfort level is,” said Jennifer Carruthers, Board President. “We are not naïve to think that even if we are in a better place come June that some people in the community will still not feel comfortable being fully in person. We understand the need for everyone to feel connected to our events, community and celebration so offering a diverse portfolio of events and programming in different mediums will be key to our success in 2021.”

nn

The organization has a wide range of events and activities planned to celebrate the breadth and depth of the Iowa LGBTQ+ community including the Pride Silent Disco, the Pride Fun Run, the Pride Pet Parade, Storytellers, Speaker Series, performances, and many other numerous events both old and new throughout the entire month of June.

nn

Capital City Pride will be releasing more information on events and performances on its social media in the coming weeks and months, sign up for our newsletter at ,www.capitalcitypride.org or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter to stay up to date all things Pride 2021.
