Capital City Pride Announces 2018 Pride Gala & Awards Ceremony

January 10, 2018

DES MOINES, Iowa – As a way to celebrate and honor outstanding individuals and organizations throughout the Des Moines area LGBTQ community, Capital City Pride is hosting its first annual Pride Gala and Awards Ceremony. The event will not only recognize those who empower the local LGBTQ community, but will also serve as a way to raise funds for Capital City Pride’s fundamental programs and services.

“This exciting event is a great way to showcase all the amazing achievements and successes that the LGBTQ community has right here in Des Moines,” said Dan Jansen, Vice President, Capital City Pride. “We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support, encouragement, and enthusiasm of each of these fantastic organizations and individuals, and the Pride Gala is our opportunity to show our appreciation while also generating awareness for all the wonderful things that are happening in our own backyard.”

The Pride Gala will be held at the Temple for Performing Arts on Friday, February 23, 2018. Attendees will enjoy a cocktail hour with cash bar starting at 5:30 p.m., three-course plated dinner, keynote speaker, raffle prizes, silent auction, and more.

Keynote speaker Jean Malpas is a leading psychologist focusing on issues with gender and sexuality, and acts as the Director of the Gender and Family Project at the Ackerman Institute in New York. With several published articles including, Family Process’ “Between Pink and Blue: A Multidimensional Approach to Gender Nonconforming Children and Their Families,” Jean’s work has been recognized by the Early Career Award of the American Family Therapy Academy.
