Capital City Pride Presents True Stories, True Selves with USA Today Storytellers Brand Studio

DES MOINES, IA – On Monday, April 16 Capital City Pride in cooperation with Athene USA, will unveil True Stories, True Selves: A Night of First-Person Stories from Des Moines’ LGBTQ Community and Their Allies. This special event is centered around everyday people telling true stories about who they are, what they do, and why it matters.

“We’re excited to partner with USA TODAY NETWORK to bring such a powerful event to the Des Moines community,” said Dan Jansen, Vice President, Capital City Pride. “Through these memorable stories, we will show that everyone has a story worth telling and this event sends a message that everyone is worth listening to. This is especially important in Des Moines LGBTQ community where people have pride in their identity and want to share stories that define and reinforce community and ally values.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from LGBTQ community members, allies, and parents. These are the unexpected stories – some charming, some touching, some funny – from local men and women creating families, creating lives, and creating a city and community they are proud of.

“Athene is excited and proud to partner with Capital City Pride and its Storytellers event,” said Kristi Kaye Burma, EVP Human Resources at Athene. “The unique perspectives, voices and contributions of our workforce are what distinguish Athene and drive some of our most innovative products and ideas. Everyone has their own story to tell and we applaud the inclusion and engagement efforts of Capital City Pride with this special community event.”

True Stories, True Selves will be held at the Hoyt Sherman Place at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16. Tickets can be purchased on Ticketmaster at: https://www1.ticketmaster.com/event/060054669B3B7E8B
