Des Moines – On February 7th,Capital City Pride (CCP) will continue its monthly 2019 Speaker Series with the first woman from Iowa to climb Mount Everest, Jen Loeb. Jen’s love and passion for mountain climbing started in 2010 and has taken her all over the world. She is currently on track to become one of only 25 women in the United States to successfully complete the Seven Summits.
“Jen Loeb's accomplishments are truly amazing, and we are honored that she represents both the state of Iowa and the LGBTQ community,” said CCP President, Dan Jansen. “Not only will Jen share her first-hand experiences about her amazing journey as an international renown mountain climber, but she will also provide insight into what it takes to achieve your life's passion."
Jen was born and raised in Jesup, Iowa. She received a degree in biology from Wartburg College and currently lives in Marengo, Iowa. She has been featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the Des Moines Register, KWWL, KCRG, and NPR.
“Having the chance to speak locally about my adventures is something I always look forward to,” Jen stated. “Not many people get the chance to do what I do and if I can inspire someone else, even in the tiniest way, I call that a success.”
The 2019 Speaker Series will be held at the Des Moines Art Center at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7. The series is free to attend, however, due to limited space, it is recommended that tickets be reserved at: [insert address]
