Pride Walk

June 1 @ 3:00 pm 6:00 pm

The Pride Walk will meet up at the Sculpture Park and proceed down Locust to the Iowa State Capitol. The Pride Walk is intended to open Pride Month by highlighting the work that still needs to be done. This peaceful protest walk brings light the fact that out of 193 countries in the world, there are still 70 countries where being LGBTQ+ is against the law. That is 1/3 of the world.

In addition to that global view, the Pride Walk will also highlight legislation here in Iowa. Local leaders will speak about legislation that targeted the LGBTQ+ community this year. Come show your Pride and recommit to the ongoing work that is yet to be done both here locally and around the world as we kickoff Pride Month.

Gather and speeches at 3:00pm. Walk begins at 3:30pm. (The Walk will be escorted by the Des Moines Police to ensure all participants are protected from traffic on Locust and intersecting streets.)
